ASA is a demanding survival sim. Taming the right dinosaurs and building defensibly are the two skills that decide whether you thrive or get eaten.

These are our editor’s practical, reproducible tips — no exploits, no external tools, just better play on a normal PC.

Taming & Base Building

The essentials for ARK: Survival Ascended.

Taming efficiency

Use a taming calculator for the exact narcotics and favorite food (Kibble > Prime Meat > Berries). Higher taming effectiveness = more levels and better stats. Trap the dino first.

Starter base

Build on a cliff or raised stone foundation, with a 2×2 with a behemoth gate. Tame a Trike (berries + thatch), then a Carno/Request for meat, then a flyer (Argentavis) for metal.

Performance

ASA is UE5-heavy — lower "View Distance" and "Event Spawn" first. Build in a single compact area; spread-out bases and many lights tank FPS on weaker PCs.
