Code Vein 2 — Tips & Tricks Worth Knowing

Practical Code Vein 2 tips — the settings paradoxes, hidden options and workarounds that change how the game feels.

Last updated 2026-09-25 · evergreen reference

These are the Code Vein 2 tips that are not obvious from the menus — settings that behave counter-intuitively, options buried in config files, and workarounds for behaviour that looks like a bug but is not. None of them are cheats and none of them require mods unless explicitly stated. Code Vein 2 runs on the Unreal Engine 5, so a few of these carry over to other titles on the same engine.

Tips worth knowing

Each one changes something measurable.

Turn on DLSS or FSR

Patches 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 added DLSS and FSR support, and they are the single easiest performance win. Use Quality at 1080p or 1440p.

Cap the frame rate

Uncapped frame rates are a direct cause of stutter here. Cap to 60 with the in-game limiter or RTSS, or 30 on weaker hardware.

Use borderless windowed

Borderless Windowed with resolution scale at 100% makes alt-tabbing reliable, which matters when you are looking things up mid-session.

Prefer a controller

The game is built around controller muscle memory for soulslike timing; keyboard and mouse works, and patches fixed several input bugs, but a pad is still the smoother experience.

Watch your VRAM at 4K

The game can use up to 9GB of VRAM at 4K, so texture and effect settings need to match your card rather than being maxed.

Field of view and monitoring

The CV2CameraTweaks mod on Nexus Mods adjusts FOV, and MSI Afterburner plus RTSS is the easiest way to confirm you are holding a stable 60 before you start changing settings.

Habits that prevent most problems

Cheap to adopt, expensive to skip.

Let shaders compile before you play

Modern engines compile shaders on the fly, and skipping that step turns into stutter every time a new asset loads. On first boot, or after any driver update, sit in the menu until compilation finishes.

Back up your saves

Find the save location for your game and copy it before making system-level changes like page file adjustments or a reinstall. Crashes during long sessions are otherwise unrecoverable.

Change one thing at a time

Pick a test scene, change a single setting, and re-run it. Changing five settings at once and hoping is the main reason players end up with a worse configuration than the default.

Verify files after every patch

Launch-day and post-patch downloads are the most common source of corrupted assets. Verification takes a couple of minutes and resolves a surprising number of unexplained crashes.
