Survival Basics & Build 42
The essentials for Project Zomboid.
Day-one priorities
Fill bags with canned food, grab a axe/screwdriver, and find a water source (well or rain collector). Avoid the noise of guns early — melee is quieter and attracts fewer zeds.
Base site
Pick a 2-story house on the map edge with curtains (hide from zeds) and a second-floor window escape. Board the stairs, not the doors. Farm + rain barrels = long-term survival.
Build 42 tips
The new crafting and animal systems reward specialization; pick traits that match your plan (e.g., Farmer for crops, Burglar for safe starts). Never sprint with low fitness — it exhausts you.
