Resident Evil Requiem — Tips & Tricks Worth Knowing
Practical Resident Evil Requiem tips — the settings paradoxes, hidden options and workarounds that change how the game feels.
Last updated 2026-09-25 · evergreen reference
These are the Resident Evil Requiem tips that are not obvious from the menus — settings that behave counter-intuitively, options buried in config files, and workarounds for behaviour that looks like a bug but is not. None of them are cheats and none of them require mods unless explicitly stated. Resident Evil Requiem runs on the RE Engine, so a few of these carry over to other titles on the same engine.
Tips worth knowing
Each one changes something measurable.
The counter-intuitive texture setting
Setting Textures to High often looks sharper than Ultra. When VRAM is nearly full the RE Engine silently drops to lower-resolution mips, so Ultra can render muddier than High. Leaving roughly 2GB of headroom lets the engine load the full-resolution mips immediately.
Stop VRAM spilling into system RAM
On 8GB and 10GB GeForce cards the driver pages textures out to system RAM once VRAM fills, which is roughly ten times slower and causes severe hitching. In NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings, select the game and set “CUDA – Sysmem Fallback Policy” to “Prefer No Sysmem Fallback”.
Turn on Resizable BAR
Confirm ReBAR (or Smart Access Memory on AMD) is enabled in BIOS with GPU-Z. It allows 64-bit transfers and measurably reduces PCIe streaming stalls during traversal.
Useful Steam launch options
Add these one at a time in Properties > General: -dx12 to force DirectX 12, -windowed to bypass fullscreen black-screen crashes, and -nointro to skip intro videos that freeze on some configurations.
QTE stutter workaround
If a quick-time event stutters, pause for a few seconds and then unpause — the event plays correctly. This is a known asset-streaming issue rather than a performance limit.
Housekeeping that actually matters
Run the executable as administrator, verify game files after any launch-day patch, disable the Steam overlay (it conflicts with DX12 in several RE Engine titles), and make sure both x86 and x64 Visual C++ 2015-2022 redistributables are installed.
Habits that prevent most problems
Cheap to adopt, expensive to skip.
Let shaders compile before you play
Modern engines compile shaders on the fly, and skipping that step turns into stutter every time a new asset loads. On first boot, or after any driver update, sit in the menu until compilation finishes.
Back up your saves
Find the save location for your game and copy it before making system-level changes like page file adjustments or a reinstall. Crashes during long sessions are otherwise unrecoverable.
Change one thing at a time
Pick a test scene, change a single setting, and re-run it. Changing five settings at once and hoping is the main reason players end up with a worse configuration than the default.
Verify files after every patch
Launch-day and post-patch downloads are the most common source of corrupted assets. Verification takes a couple of minutes and resolves a surprising number of unexplained crashes.
