RimWorld is a colony sim where stories emerge from problems. A stable start and a couple of QoL mods remove the early frustration.

These are our editor’s practical, reproducible tips — no exploits, no external tools, just better play on a normal PC.

Getting Started

The essentials for RimWorld.

Colony setup

Start with 3 colonists covering Shooting, Construction, and Medicine/Plants. Pick a temperate biome with a nearby river. Build a killbox (a narrow chokepoint) before raiders arrive.

Power & food

Wood generator → solar + batteries for night. Rice grows fast but spoils; corn/hay for long-term. Freezers (powered) keep meat from rotting.

Research path

Prioritize Smithing → Electricity → Battery → Hydroponics. A research bench with a nearby bookcase speeds it. Don’t neglect a hospital (sterile tiles + vitals monitor).
